Another candidate sent his responses in to PROSF as quickly as I did, good for him. I saw a couple good ideas in his answers...
a website promoting carpooling for neighbors.. good idea, but Craigslist has been doing it for a while now..
Both in his literature and in his answers to the survey, he promotes using parking ticket monies to pay for muni... well, that was done a while ago, I believe with Prop E which in fact is causing some trouble with other parts of our budget and parking crisis nowadays. (not that it was intended to by the authors, who I think did a great job) but it's tied the hands of DPT to do better enforcement because all the money they could make by enforcing parking regs goes right to muni, not to hiring more DPT people. Ah well. An easy thing to fix, one would think.
oh, and he mentions redistricting of the police districts... North station should go a bit further west.. this too is a good idea, and has been on the table for discussion for a while now...
and he talked about a sort of 'open door' type event so that folks not connected to neighborhood or specific interest groups could have a chance to connect with the supervisor. Of course, my plans for quarterly Town Hall meetings do cover that, and I do like Supervisor Gonzalez's little art shows in the office (though I'd make sure to keep the artists highlighted from the District),
and my plan to keep a website up and a strong email announcement list going after I'm elected will cover another large group, and my promise to work with and write for the local papers --columns, etc. will hit another group... I agree that there should be some other venues for communication with the Supe.
I like the idea of a happy hour in the district. Once a week or once a month, I will announce that I'd be at some bar or restaurant in the district, and folks can just come out and talk issues.
